World of Warcraft players are experiencing a frustrating ‘launcher cannot obtain patching information‘ error message all over the world. Forums and blogs are abuzz with complaints, fix ideas, suggestions, and lots of venting of frustration. The WOW community is coming together for each other and are helping players who were struck with the inconvenience to get back into the game.
One fix that seems to have worked that I found on a blog suggested this:
* Please remove any custom proxy settings.
* Go into Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options> Connections> LAN settings and make sure that you Select Automatically Detect settings.
* And make sure that you have Use Automatic configuration Script and Use a Proxy server not checked.
* If this doesn’t work, renewing your IP address and flushing your DNS cache can often help resolve connection issues.
WOW, the acronym for World of Warcraft is currently the world’s most subscribed MMORPG with over 12 million subscribers as of Oct 2010. The most recent installment of the game, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, sold more than 4.7 million copies in its first month of release. The game’s popularity and success has had such an impact on Blizzard Entertainment that the company is hiring for multiple positions in order to keep up.
With an audience of this size, you can imagine how detrimental a glitch like this can be. My daughter is an avid player and fan of the WOW platform, and considers it to be more than a game, but rather getting together with her friends online. WOW had developed into a social network so to speak that meaningfully contributes to players’ lives.
