A shooting at a tanning salon in an Orland Park, Ill. tanning salon Saturday left a man who is believed to be the ”honeybee killer” dead.
Gary Amaya entered L.A. Tan with a gun and confronted the woman at the front desk. A customer of the salon, Jason McDaniel, entered while Amaya had the worker bound behind the counter. Surveillance video shows McDaniel grabbing the gun after Amaya puts it down to bend over for rope. The men then move out into the hallway, where McDaniel shoots him. Amaya lunges at him and he shoots again, this time killing him.
The “honeybee killer” is suspected of shooting three men near the Illinois-Indiana border in October. The shootings appeared to be at random, with one fatality. The shooter was given his nickname after he had a conversation with one victim about honeybees before shooting him. The gun used in the robbery matched the gun used in the shootings. Amaya also resembles the police sketch of the fugitive, and his truck matches the description of the one that was at the previous shootings.
